The World's Most Famous Buddhist Celebrities
It can be said we live in a celebrity drenched world. We can't pass a news stand or turn on the TV without seeing the warts and all lives of the stars paraded as entertainment for our eyes. Maybe the cult of celebrity has replaced religion as the "opium of the masses".
What celebrities have and particularly the global ones that are usually Hollywood movie stars or celebrated rock icons is a global brand , a presence that is immediate to us all whether we live in a great western metropolis or a remote Indian village - they literally touch the substance our lives.
The Buddha, when he was on his death bed just over 2500 years ago was adamant that his life’s work and message should continue to prosper and take root far beyond his passing away. So powerful and simple was that message that we hear it loud and clear millennia’s away from when he last drew breath. The message is one of personal spiritual transformation and of love and compassion for all sentient beings. Today more than at anytime in our history we need to clearly hear his message and try and follow the path.
Celebrities are of course powerful vehicles for messages whether they be good or bad so I was proud to promote on our companion blog site a series of the World’s Top 10 Most Famous Buddhists. It’s just a bit of fun ..but then again … a jug fills drop by drop !
